Welcome to Shine On

"To be understood is to understand yourself."

Online Counselling and Therapy for Individuals based in the UK.

Welcome, and thank you for visiting Shine On.

My name is Holly Jordan, I am a fully qualified Integrative counsellor.

I am a registered member of the British Association for counselling and Psychotherapy and continue to attend regular workshops and training courses.

Entering counselling for the first time can fill you with worries and anxiety. It is important for me to create a setting, so anxiety begins to ease, enabling exploration to occur.

I would like to offer you a safe, warm, non-judgemental space to provide security that is needed for exploration that we can take together. To have a trusting relationship between therapist and client is fundamental to bring about change, to be understood is to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationship, and your past experiences.

I will tailor our work together to your needs, as I recognise, we are all unique.

I currently work online using zoom or phone in private practice with adults of all ages, eighteen and above.

I also work as a School Counsellor Lead in a primary and Secondary school setting.

Taking the first step, takes courage but this is the start of your journey to feeling better supported.

My Approach

The Person Centred approach

This encourages you to explore your feelings, behaviour and beliefs.Allowing you to become more self aware and achieve greater independence.

Psychodynamic approach

This explores how our current behaviours and feelings are shaped by past experiences.

Looking at what is below the surface of your awareness and bringing it into you conscious mind.

Speak in Confidence

The basis for a successful therapeutic relationship is confidentiality.

I want you to feel that you are in a safe, welcoming, calm space to be able to communicate honestly and openly.

I want you to feel that your thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and that i will listen with empathy, sensitivity, without judgement.

This is one of my key commitments to my clients.

A problem shared...

I want you to feel supported, that you are not alone. We are all on our life journey and when you are at the crossroads you may feel you need to be held and understood.

Relationship issues, anxiety, depression, change of jobs, loss or the difficulties we can face in our everyday lives.

Counselling gives us a safe place to explore what is causing these problems and how we can manage or resolve them.

Make better, healthier new choices

Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier choices moving forward.

Frequently asked questions

How long will I need to have counselling?

How long a period of counselling lasts will vary from person to person and depend on the depth of the issues they are facing. For some people a couple of sessions helps to bring their problems into focus, and they feel ready to move forward; other problems may require more of an open-ended approach.

Before we begin any work we will agree on the number of sessions we’ll undertake, and at the end of that number review our progress. As long as we both agree further therapy will be of benefit to you, sessions can continue.

How long will I have to wait for an appointment?

My aim is to offer a first appointment - known as an initial assessment - within 1-2 weeks. Then we would arrange a set number of counselling sessions to take place at the same time every week, that is convenient for you and where I have availability. How quickly these sessions can begin will depend on the availabity of that free ‘slot’.

Will everything I say be kept confidential?

Everything that is said within the counselling room is private - this is one of the main ways counselling and therapy differ from talking to a friend or relative. Once you are comfortable with the format of weekly sessions and the safe space they provide, you will find the freedom to speak in confidence is of great value.

Note that there are some situations where you may be a risk to yourself or others, and there the law requires that I notify an authority; in these cases I may not be able to keep total confidentiality. Breaking confidentiality is very rare though, and only happens after the person concerned has been informed.

Can I bring a friend or relative with me?

Usually I am asked this question by people who are nervous about entering into counselling, or when they are looking for support in coming to see a therapist. This anxiety is understandable, but a key aspect of therapy is that you should feel free to talk about any issues you feel are important to you. Having someone else with you who can be connected those issues makes this opening-up more difficult, so for this reason I do not see clients accompanied by friends or family.
